| When the new Walmart Supercenter in Sanford opened in late August, the new strip mall next door was vacant. Within a month, signs of new stores started appearing and stores have been opening steadily since then. Now, five months later, the shopping center is almost full. |

Some of the stores like Fashion Avenue and the Shoe Dept relocated from other shopping centers in town. Most of the stores are new, though. It is nice to see some new shopping alternatives here in town. My son was excited to see a Game Stop open where he can check out new and used games. My daughter will no doubt love some of the new clothing stores. I have noticed a couple of new restaurants - one is a Chinese Buffet and the other is a Burger and Shake place called Andy’s. |
| I am still holding out a faint hope that one of the few unclaimed stores will fill up with a bookstore. I also haven’t seen any signs of new buildings on the outparcels in front of the shopping center.I am hoping for a Chik-Fil-A or Zaxby’s and maybe a nice casual dining restaurant. Both the Ruby Tuesday’s and the Applebee’s in town seem to be busy almost every day of the week so I am sure we could support another restaurant - Red Robin or something similar would be nice. Of course, we do have some great local restaurants - I might blog about those next! |
